Why I Became a Financial Advisor

Why I Became a Financial Advisor

Our interests and passions can change a lot throughout our lives, but some traits are ingrained in us and make us who we are. For me, that’s helping people.

I’ve been helping people throughout my life in some capacity. Before making it my career, I helped a number of families with their finances through church and other organizations. It was actually during these early days of assisting others that I discovered how much chaos and a lack of direction there was within the financial services industry, and how many people didn’t seem to have a financial advisor with whom they felt confident and comfortable working. This inspired me to find a better way to manage money and my future clients’ financial goals.

Early Career Days

My first career was in business. I served as the Director of Business Development at DLA Piper, a global law firm, a Chief Marketing Officer at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, and a Chief Marketing Officer at vcfo. It was in these positions that I learned more about the financial services industry and, combined with my passion for helping others with their finances, I took a leap of faith and changed careers.

In 2008, I got my licenses and officially became a financial advisor. In the same year, I became a business owner, creating my firm, ClearVista Financial

My Career Today

Today, I lead with the same intentions I initially wanted to achieve: helping people find financial balance in their lives. As a strong believer in stewardship, I live life with the notion that we all have a responsibility to share our gifts and talents to sustain and improve our community. I do so through financial planning.

I have always been an advocate for accessible and understandable personal financial planning. Traditional financial planning tools tend to use simplistic assumptions and can produce financial targets that are unrealistic and unworkable for real people. My goal is to work closely with each of my clients to determine what makes them tick and what they want to accomplish. Only then, do I work to develop a roadmap to guide them towards their goals.

The Challenges and the Rewards

My career is certainly not easy, and there are challenging days. It can be difficult keeping people focused on their goals, instead of outperforming the markets or expecting impressive returns from day one. I want my clients to have a realistic understanding of the importance of taking a risk-managed approach to investing, especially as they get close to retirement.

Despite some of the challenges, I can’t imagine having any other career. Every day, I’m driven by my passion to help others with their financial lives and teach them to be good stewards of their money. I feed off of helping others, and my desire to impact as many lives as possible drives me to work hard.

At the end of the day, there’s no greater feeling than being able to tell someone who has worked hard all their life that they can retire on schedule. It’s also incredibly fulfilling being part of so many people’s lives, providing counsel when they need it, comfort when they experience a loss, or a shoulder to lean on.

Working Together

I am always open to seeing how I can help people pursue financial balance. If you’ve struggled to find a financial advisor, have yet to start financial planning, or have questions about your future retirement, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d be happy to provide you a complimentary consultation to get to know you better and share how I may be able to help and guide you. To get started, email me at or call 512-381-1510.
